Yes as in my schooling on tanning hides you must first soak a Coon hide in white gas (Colman Lantern fuel) before aplying the tanning solution to it.(Tandy Leather instructions for their product TANNIT) it works great for small things.

Al ! Their referring to Metho ! White spirit is just a more refined form of method you can buy it in any supermarket Hardware ect ! I always brought White spirit when taking a young lady out for the first time !!!!!!!! Kind of made me look more sophisticated than a Metho drinker
Seriously . If you use Sweets 7.62 you swab the barrel out with either Metho or White Spirit after cleaning & also wash any Bronze brushes as well as it eats them away over night! I speak from experiance on this Dave |

Cool, I get a bunch of chipmunks and squirrels with my air rifle in the back yard....from now on, instead of feeding them to the yotes and foxes I will skin em..then donate the meat to the wilds. I might make chipmunk gloves, or finger puppets and a squirrel hat!! Oh yea, I got two groundhogs and a few rabbits as well....Always toyed with the idea of saving the skins....I promise that pictures will follow if I get into it!

Lost Kangaroo, I have a few Squirrel hides and some Rabbit hides as well as a Coon Hide that I Tanned years ago. They Held up great. the Tanning solution that Tandy leather sales is a one step process. it comes in a bottle that will do 2 avrage deer hides. I usualy send a Deer hide out to get it profesionaly Crhome Tanned. the work you have to put into it for a Deer hide is worth the money for a profesional tannery job.
As for them Rabbits and Squirrels it worth it to use the Tanning solution from Tandy Leather...

Lost Kangaroo,
Those chipmunks and squirrels are good eating!
Feed them to yourself (cooked of course), not to the varmints!

Personally, I would use a somewhat faster powder in the .303 British with 150gr bullets.
WW760 works well in the cartridge with bullets of 180gr or more. I tried it once with 150gr bullets. It sounded like a nuclear detonation and left a lot of unburned powder in the barrel.

I've been trying .303 reloads using 46gr WW760 with pulled Mk VII bullets. Shoots pretty well, to the same point as the military loads. The ball powder is easier on the barrel than the original Cordite.

Smokey, so even with the usual 25" or so barrel of a #1 or #4 Enfield, you'd still fine a lot of unburnt powder using WW760 with a 150gr. or so projectile?

We ended up using 44.0 gr. WW760 powder with a 174gr. Sierra Match King bullet, CCI200 primer and Greek once fired military cases. Fantastic results and very little residue in the barrel. We tried this load in our Winchester P1914 and the RSAF #1 Mk III. Excellent results.

Win 760 is SIMILAR to H-414, but not identical.
Col. Faulkner, I tried Win 760 with 150gr Steel bullets in a standard #4 Mk.2 and got poor combustion.

I'd wonder if the weight differential would have anything to do with that. What kind of primer are you using. I've been using the CCI200 Large Rifle.
